SBCSCS Scholarships

The South Bay Chinese Service Club (SBCSC) offers annual scholarships to exemplary graduating high school seniors residing or attending high schools in Fremont, Newark, Union City, or Milpitas, CA with a personal background in or appreciation of the Chinese or Chinese-American history, culture, heritage, or language, and an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0 (or 2.5 for “need-based scholarships” applicants). Students outside the Tri-city area and Milpitas may be eligible if their parents or grandparents are active Board members, officers, and Committee members of SBCC/SBCSC.

Applicants must submit Part 1 of the online application by January 19, 2026. Upon notification of the acceptance of their applications, the students are required to submit an essay on “How the Chinese culture, heritage, or language affects my goals and interactions with society” and an official seventh semester transcript by February 23, 2026. CIPCF Scholarships

The Chinese Immersion Parents’ Council of Fremont (CIPCF) is collaborating with SBCSC to offer scholarships to graduating seniors who have completed the Mandarin Immersion Program (MIP) of the Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) - minimum enrollment: 6th-8th grade. CIPCF award applicants may also apply for other SBCSC scholarships such as special awards and need-based scholarships if qualified.

Scholarship Application Request for High School Seniors

To apply for the 2026 SBCSC or CIPCF Scholarships, complete the Application Request Form on this page. You will then receive a link to the Scholarship Application Form. Carefully review the instructions for required and optional documents. Applicants will be notified of their selection status via email. Once the application is accepted, you will be asked to submit all the supporting documents by February 23, 2026.*

*Late submissions will not be accepted. Ensure all documents are submitted on time to meet the deadlines. If you do not receive acknowledgement of receiving your submitals within 3 days, please contact us as soon as possible.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Submit an online application by January 19, 2026.

  2. Submit a 500-700-word maximum essay on “How the Chinese culture, heritage, or language affects my goals and interactions with society” by February 23, 2026.

  3. Submit an official (signed) seventh semester transcript (submitted by the school office or official transcript service site by February 23, 2026.

  4. If applying for one or more of the Special Awards, submit a 100-200 word “qualification statement” for each category.

  5. If applying for a Need-based scholarship, submit a redacted (social security number removed) first page of the family’s 2024 Federal Tax Return and a FSS (FAFSA Submission Summary) with Part 1 of the application by January 19, 2026.

IMPORTANT DATES

Application Deadline: Monday January 19, 2026

Supporting Documents Deadline: Postmarked by February 28, 2025, or emailed by Monday February 23, 2026.

Awards Banquet: Thursday April 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at Pearl Bay Restaurant, 43635 Boscell Rd., Fremont, CA. (NOTE: Location is tentative. Please see the 2026 Scholarship Awards Banquet web page when it is available.)

IMPORTANT: You must be present to receive the scholarship award personally at the Awards Banquet on April 9, 2026. DO NOT APPLY if you have a schedule conflict on April 9, 2026!

Scholarship Awards

The scholarship program aims to honor talented students for their dedication and achievements while offering support for future challenges. Recipients are chosen based on academic performance, leadership, extracurricular involvement, community service, and other criteria.

The number of scholarships depends on donations received. In 2025, we awarded $62,000 to 38 students. Each recipient received at least $1,000. Visit our 2025 Scholarships Recap page to see last year’s awardees and photos.

Attendance Required: 2026 Scholarship Award recipients are required to attend the April 9, 2026 awards ceremony to receive their scholarship.
