SBCSCS Scholarships
The South Bay Chinese Service Club (SBCSC) offers annual scholarships to exemplary graduating high school seniors residing or attending high schools in Fremont, Newark, Union City, or Milpitas, CA with a personal background in or appreciation of the Chinese or Chinese-American history, culture, heritage, or language, and an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0 (or 2.5 for “need-based scholarships” applicants). Students outside the Tri-city area and Milpitas may be eligible if their parents or grandparents are active Board members, officers, and Committee members of SBCC/SBCSC.
Applicants must submit an online application by January 31, 2025. Upon notification of the acceptance of their applications, the students are required to submit an essay on “How the Chinese culture, heritage, or language affects my goals and interactions with society” and an official seventh semester transcript by February 28, 2025. CIPCF Scholarships
The Chinese Immersion Parents’ Council of Fremont (CIPCF) is collaborating with SBCSC to offer scholarships to graduating seniors who have completed the Mandarin Immersion Program (MIP) of the Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) - minimum enrollment: 6th-8th grade. CIPCF award applicants may also apply for other SBCSC scholarships such as special awards and need-based scholarships if qualified.
Scholarship Application Request for High School Seniors
To apply for the 2025 SBCSC or CIPCF Scholarships, complete the Application Request Form on this page. You will then receive a link to the Scholarship Application Form. Carefully review the instructions for required and optional documents. Applicants will be notified of their selection status via email. Once the application is accepted, you will be asked to submit all the supporting documents by February 28, 2025.*
*Late submissions will not receive reminders. Ensure all documents are submitted on time to meet the deadline.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Submit an online application by January 31, 2025.
Submit a 500-700-word maximum essay on “How the Chinese culture, heritage, or language affects my goals and interactions with society” by February 28, 2025.
Submit an official (signed) seventh semester transcript (submitted by the school office or official transcript service site by February 28, 2025.
Optional: If applying for one or more of the Special Awards, submit a 100-200 word “qualification statement” for each category.
Optional: If applying for a Need-based scholarship, submit a redacted (social security number removed) first page of the family’s 2023 Federal Tax Return and a Student Aid Report (SAR) from FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
IMPORTANT DATES
Application Deadline: January 31, 2025
Supporting Documents Deadline: Postmarked by February 28, 2025, or emailed by February 28, 2025.
Awards Banquet: April 16, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at a local restaurant in the Tri-city area or Milpitas.

Need-Based Scholarship Income Limits:
This year, we will also offer need-based* scholarships to students from low-income households. To qualify, your family's annual income must not exceed the following limits:

Scholarship Awards
The scholarship program aims to honor talented students for their dedication and achievements while offering support for future challenges. Recipients are chosen based on academic performance, leadership, extracurricular involvement, community service, and other criteria.
The number of scholarships depends on donations received. In 2024, we awarded $54,500 to 34 students, an increase of over $17,000 from the previous year. Each recipient will receive at least $1,000. Visit our 2023 Scholarships Recap page to see last year’s awardees and photos.
Attendance Required: Award recipients must attend the April 16, 2025 awards ceremony to receive their scholarship.
