The South Bay Chinese Service Club scholarships award program entered into its 55th year of awarding scholarships to exemplary high school graduating seniors at our local community.  Any student with a personal background in and/or appreciation of the Chinese or Chinese-American history, culture, heritage, and language residing in Fremont, Newark, Union City, and Milpitas, and children and grandchildren of club officers and Committee members residing outside the above 4 cities are eligible to apply.  The purpose of the scholarship program is to recognize these talented students for their hard work and achievements, and to provide encouragement for the challenges ahead.  The applicants are carefully evaluated based on academic achievement, leadership, community service, and extracurricular achievement. There are also a limited number of scholarships to be awarded based on financial need. The minimum individual scholarship award amount is $1,000.

We are asking for your financial support to help us to reach out to our best students.  Our recipients are an exceptional group of highly motivated future leaders - each year it is difficult to select just a few.  During the 2023-2024 school year, with the generous donations from many of our members and major sponsors and the partnership with Chinese Immersion Parents’ Council of Fremont, we awarded a record total of $58,500 scholarship awards to 34 students.  For the 2024-2025 school year, with your help, our goal is to generate an equal or higher amount for our scholarship fund.

SBCSC Gladys Lee Memorial Scholarship Fund

Gladys was a long-time SBCC member and staunch supporter of the SBCSC Scholarship Program.  She and her husband Robert Lee were both SBCC Presidents in 1990 and 1993, respectively.  She was a wonderful woman and a great hula dancer with a strong spirit and very generous heart.

In honor of Gladys, her family established the SBCSC Gladys Lee Memorial Scholarship Fund, a new scholarship which will be presented at the 2025 Scholarship Award Banquet on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.
