In Memory of Steve Cho (1949-2025)
It is with great sadness that we convey the news of the passing of Steve Cho on January 29, 2025.
Steve has dedicated his entire life to community service.
Steve was a long-time SBCC and CBC member. He was a two-term President of South Bay Chinese Club (SBCC) in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014. Steve was also a two-term president of Citizens for Better Community (CBC) in 1999-2000 and 2006-2007. He was honored as Citizen of the Year by CBC in 2000 and 2012.
Steve was the first Chinese American elected to serve as councilmember in the City of Fremont. He held that position for 8 years and has also served as Vice-mayor. Steve opened the door for many Chinese Americans to follow his footsteps serving the City of Fremont today - as councilmembers and mayor.
Steve received his BA degree in Mathematics at Washington University in St. Louis.
He then received his MS degree in Computer Science at USC and eventually started up his own software company.
We will miss Steve’s signature community service appearances such as dressing up as Uncle Sam in the annual Fremont 4th of July parade, dressing up as Santa Claus entertaining the seniors at our annual Holidays event, and dancing in the Nutcracker play during Christmas.
